Flagged Pins

Understand how these work within PinClicks

Updated over 3 months ago

Pinterest sometimes flags pins for various reasons (we track the most important ones—see below).

🚩 Types of Flagged Pins:

A pin is considered flagged if any of these conditions is true.

  • Labeled AI Edited: A flag indicating that Pinterest has labeled the pin as AI-edited.

  • Is Go Linkless: Pinterest has removed the link from a pin, making it "linkless". When a user saves the pin, the link sometimes later reappears. This will sometimes happen on your pins or repins.

  • SEO Noindex Reason: Various reasons why Pinterest has decided to block a pin from external search engines.

🔍 How PinClicks Handles Flagged Pins

  • We store flag data for over 200 million pins (and growing).

  • Flag detection happens at the individual pin level, not the account level.

✉️ How to Set Up Automatic Flagged Pin Notifications

Want to get notified by email every time one of your pins is flagged? Here’s how to make sure it’s set up correctly:

✅ Step-by-Step Setup

  1. Upgrade to Pin Plus

    • Flagged pin notifications are only available to Pin Plus customers.

  2. Add Your Pinterest Accounts

    • Go to the Account Explorer > My Accounts tab.

    • Add the Pinterest accounts you want us to monitor.

  3. Enable Email Notifications

    • In your Notification Settings, (bell icon in top nav) make sure the option for flagged pin alerts is turned ON.

    • This is enabled by default for Pin Plus users—but double-check just in case.

📩 What Happens Next

Once you’ve completed these steps:

  • PinClicks will automatically scan your pins every 30 days

  • If any pin is found with a flag, you’ll receive an email notification with details.

  • You don’t need to do anything else—just let us monitor it for you.

🕒 Why Data Might Not Be Real-Time

  • The pins you see in PinClicks Account Explorer reflect the status at the time we crawled them.

  • Since we crawl each pin every 30 days:

    • There may be a 30-day lag between when Pinterest flags a pin and when we detect it.

    • The first time we see your pin, it may not be flagged—but we’ll catch it in a future crawl.

    • We may not scan all of your pins at the same time, and it is likely staggered throughout a 30-day period. It's an ongoing crawl process.

📬 Want a Full Report of All Currently Flagged Pins?

  • If you’re a Pin Plus customer, we can run a one-time, full FlaggedPins.com report.

  • Email [email protected] your account name and we’ll send it to you.

  • We’re happy to run this report a few times per year as a courtesy.

  • After that, you can let PinClicks do the work—we’ll automatically email you anytime a pin gets flagged.

FAQs

What should I do with my pins that have been flagged?

This is a very new tool and insight for Pinterest creators, so we're not 100% sure what you should do with your flagged pins. However, we are testing deleting the majority of older flagged pins on an account that receive minimal traffic to see if it will increase the visibility of the entire account, or at least keep it from being shadow banned. You might consider deleting them or at least moving them to a hidden board. Not all flagged pins may be bad. Use your best judgement.

What happens if I delete my flagged pins?

We're not sure and currently testing this ourselves. Many people in the Maverick community are doing this as well and we'll share the results with each other there. We're not sure how long it will take for your account to see the effects of deleting flagged pins. We have noticed that for many accounts, pins created within the last 90 days have not been flagged, which means there could be a 90 day delay period.

What does SEO Noindex mean?

This means Pinterest has decided to block search engines from including your pin in the search results. There are various reasons why Pinterest may do that. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes not. Every noindex has a value. Currently, we do not show that value for you, but this will be shown in the near future. In the meantime, here are the potential values that we are aware of for SEO noindex pins:

Not all pins will have a flagged status code.

No one outside of Pinterest fully understands what each status code means, so we've done our best to interpret each one.
